MP's seal of approval

From the archive, first published Tuesday 30th Jan 2007.

ANDOVER MP, Sir George Young formally reopened the Post Office in Enham Alamein after it was closed for four days for a major revamp.

Instead of the Post Office section being tucked away in a corner, it's now an integral part of the shop. There is a new floor, ceiling, air-condtioning and shop fittings.

Sir George said. "The local community use the shop and would be lost without it.

"Closure for four days caused real difficulties to many in the village who are not fully mobile. The Post office has backed it with a grant to help finance the Post Office side of the business.

"What we are now waiting for is the Government. They recognise that Post Offices such as this one are not viable without an element of grant, and are currently reviewing it. Some 2,500 Post Office will have to close.

"I am determined that this won't be one of them."
